Jemez River Through Valles Caldera — The Story

Many friends had suggested the Valles Caldera would be a wonderful place to visit, hike, photograph. Early October seemed like a good time to check it out. I found it to be a wonderful place, with a lot of potential and I could tell I’ll need to return. The winds this particular day were quite strong and the temperature was below freezing. Need to return, a bit earlier in the season perhaps.

Windy Day at Valles Caldera — The Story

Another shot of the valley floor, this one looking away from the Jemez, showing the winds effect on the abundant grasses in the area. Just a few minutes earlier a coyote jaunted across my path and disappeared in the tall grass before I could react. Wildlife must be abundant here.

Ancient Tree at Bandelier — The Story

My exploration of Valles Caldera included two nights camping at Bandelier. I walked a few trails, explored some of the ruins. This graceful ancient tree seemed to have many stories to tell.
